Series is announced in a LA Times article by Walter Ames - to start 3/26/1951
Bogart & Bacall sign a 5-year contact with Frederic W. Ziv company.
"Signing of Humphrey Bogart and his wife, Lauren Bacall to a five-year contract
by the Frederic W. Ziv company yesterday brought another prominent movie couple into
radio's adventure series field.
Bogie and Lauren are set to costar in 52 half-hour programs titled "BOLD VENTURE" Format
has Bogart as a Havana innkeeper with an all-purpose boat bearing the show's title.
Lauren portrays his ward and love interest on the half-hour programs.
Production costs for each half-hour show, which in addition to the two stars will feature
background music by David Rose and his orchestra, will approximate $12,000 a week. The
Bogarts will receive a royalty on sales of the series and are expected to realize $5,000 weekly
during the first year.
Henry Hayward has been signed to direct the transcribed series with Dave Friedkin and
Mort Fine contributing originall scripts. Production plans call for for the film pair to record
36 of the series before taking off for their proposed European vacation. Release date has
been set for March 26.
