That would be "St. George & The Dragonet" by Stan Freberg. Stan Freberg actually did at least three parodies of Dragnet - "St. George & The Dragonet", "Little Blue Riding Hood", and "Christmas Dragnet (Yulenet)" (which came in 2 parts). I have all three (four, if you consider Yulenet as two) in 256/44, each part clocking in at about 3-1/2 minutes and 6Mb. According to my information, "St. George & The Dragonet" was a #1 hit in 1953. Its flipside, "Little Blue Riding Hood", went to #9, and "Yulenet" went to #13, again both in 1953. If you haven't already got them, I will be glad to send them to you via YouSendit. The blurb about these three tracks from the Capitol Collector's Series collection of his songs says: "About the time (1953) that Jack Webb's hit TV series 'Dragnet' had practically everybody in the country tuned in, Stan created his biggest hit: "St. George & The Dragonet". He talked Webb into loaning him the actual 'Dragnet' orchestra which scored the show each week under the baton of Walter Schumann. Backed with "Little Blue Riding Hood", the record spent four weeks at #1 and became Stan's first double-sided Top Ten single, selling a million records in three weeks. It was documented by the RIAA as the fastest-rising single record in the history of the record business up to that time. "Under pressure from Capitol, Freberg created another 'Dragnet'-styled record. Released in time for Christmas, it was a two-parter entitled "Yulenet", later re-titled "Christmas Dragnet"." Submitted by Geoff Loker
